Go to the movies, go without guilt, go and see a "real" G rated film!
Earlier this week I took our 5 year old and 9 year old to see Herbie Fully Loaded. What a relief to see that Disney kept the original feel to the film and did not try to propel this movie forward with overly technical special effects and potty humor. (Although I gotta confess that my husband and I were privately ribbing each other about the "fully loaded" part of the title!) I overheard quite a few parents commenting on how enjoyable it was to take their kids to see a movie that was a "real G" and not a watered down PG movie. So if it is hot or rainy in your neighborhood and you are looking for something to do with the kids that will not bore you to tears or make you feel like you deserve Martyr of the Year (if I were subliminal man from Saturday Night Live I would be saying under my breath "Teletubbie's Live, Monster Truck Shows, Tony Hawk Boom Huckjam, Chuck E. Cheese...) go for a guilt free pleasure and take in Herbie Fully Loaded. Plus with all of that 80's music in the soundtrack, you might actually come off as "cool" when you can rattle off the names of the bands since retro is in!

I do need to add that I was disppointed with one aspect about the film, Disney continues their age old tradition of "One Parent Is Dead". Nothing in the film depicts the death, and I don't think that younger kids will necessarily pick up on the references in the film. Older kids may have some questions and need some reassurances.
