Introducing Parentopia Props

We signed on with MOTHERS , The National Association of Mothers' Centers, MomsRising as well as whole host of other organizations and professionals to do whatever we can to support a mommy wars cease-fire.
In light of our agreement to support the mommy wars cease-fire, we will be giving shout outs (Props) to media outlets who choose to run stories that deal with the real issues, real emotions of parenting and do not pit parents against each other or create an atmosphere of one-upmanship (one-upmomship).

Our next step will be contacting the paper directly . We strongly encourage you to do the same.
Here's the thing many people may not realize about working as a journalist, the day to day work is high stress/low praise and high expectation/low recognition. Essentially it is often a thankless job. ( Gee, kinda like parenting sometimes. We can definitely relate!)
We urge you to follow our lead and recognize those journalists, writers and media outlets who "get it" and use their airtime and/or ink to not only inform the public, but also to serve as a voice of empowerment, empathy and encouragement regarding parenthood.
This will be a regular feature on our blog, so if you know of any media deserving Parentopia Props, email us or leave it in comments.

Awesome idea, ladies! This is a wonderful step forward in the right direction. No more mommy wars! :)
Mammi guilt?
Kudos! This is a topic near and dear to my heart, as you might have guessed from my recent Elizabeth Edwards post called, "Mommy Wars Suck."
Your goals are right in line with Mothers and More, which is basically a national "union" for mothers. Check it out at www.mothersandmore.org. I wondered for years where I could find a particular variety of feminism I identify with--and found it there.
Jos,
I am a actually a member of Mothers & More and have been so for over a decade. I was a member of the original "online committee" which brought M&M onto the Internet. I hosted chats for iVillage's Parent Soup for the organization for a couple of years. Aviva also belonged. In fact, she is the reason I became a member in the first place. The survey researcher for the book also was a member, that is how she and Aviva met.
There are quite a few members of the organization who contributed their Mommy Guilt experiences to our book. The local chapters are filled with amazing women who do incredible things in their community. Aviva and I receive invitations from M&M chapters all over the country to come and speak and we have visited over a dozen of them;in person and online.
Maybe some day we can visit your chapter!
